For those of you who keep up with my blog, you know I work for an amazing company called Mieszko Art. Mieszko is an incredible artist who has down syndrome. The purpose of Mieszko Art is to help Mieszko become more financially independent while showcasing his talents. I am the current Design and Branding Intern at Mieszko Art, meaning I help to design all of the products and brand the company. One of the main projects I am working on is to build the companies social media platforms and presence. Doing so has required me to do quite a bit of research into other similar companies to see what strategies have worked, and which ones have not. This week I researched three companies similar to Mieszko Art and here are my reviews!
1. John's Crazy Socks

The first professional Facebook page I chose, was for a company called John’s Crazy Socks. John, the founder of the company has down syndrome and was to create a business to raise awareness for those with mental disabilities. Overall their company has a strong and cohesive cross platform presence. They have Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube. On each platform their branding and images are all very strong. Each page also does a very good job of explaining John’s story and what his business stands for.
John’s Crazy Socks, did not have any live videos posted at the time I looked and it did not seem like something they use. I think this is because they have a separate YouTube account for videos that is very popular. However, I think live Facebook videos could be very beneficial to their brand.
Overall their Facebook page was very clean and professional looking. It also had a tab at the top of the page that you could click to access their website, which I found to be very easy and fast. All of the post were very cohesive and informative while staying up to date. The only things I disliked were that some of the pictures where a little out of date and I did not see where they had their Instagram or other accounts listed. I also wish their bio was more descriptive and informative.
2. Bitty & Beau's Coffee
For my second Facebook page, I chose a company called Bitty and Beau’s Coffee. Bitty and Beau’s was founded by a family that had two children with down syndrome. Their coffee shop employs other with mental disabilities as a way to provide income and hope for those who are disabled. I felt they maintained a great cross platform presence. Their company has a Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. Although they are not active on more platforms, the ones they are active on they do a great job. On each platform their company appears to be very professional and branded very well. Their Facebook did not have any live or saved videos from the past & again I think this is because they are active on YouTube.
Overall their Facebook appeared to be well branded with their logo and company picture. They also had strong & up to date post, and made their website very easy to access from the Facebook page. I disliked that they did not have a bio or any information about their company, because I feel this is a very important way for the customer to connect with the story of the business. I also felt they could have used stronger and higher quality photos to represent their brand. Lastly, I think it would significantly help to link their Instagram and YouTube page to their Facebook so that customers can access all of their platforms at one time.
3. Megology

For my final page I chose a company called Megology. Megology was founded by a girl named Megan Bomgaars who has down syndrome. The company creates eco chic and durable products. I felt Megology’s cross platform presence to be weak due to her only having a Facebook page and website. With Meagan’s products and mission, I feel her company would benefit tremendously from an Instagram and YouTube account.
Megology does not use live videos or stories, however, I think they could be very helpful in creating a larger client base.
Overall, I felt her media platforms needed improvement. Her post were not kept up to date and she did not have any recent or professional pictures. I also felt her bio and company description should have been more informative. Although I did think her Facebook was a good foundation for her company. She did have many post from the past and it gave a basic description of what the company was and what the purpose was. I also liked that her website was easy to use and access.
In conclusion, I felt researching these companies and looking into their cross platform strategies was very beneficial in helping me to create Mieszko Art's platforms. I definitely learned a lot about certain techniques that are helpful and what will allow customers to most easily navigate the platform.
